Louis Andriessen - The only one

I recently came across a recording of LA Phil which I was part of back in 2019. It was a US premiere and live recording of a Duth composer Louis Andriessen’s The only one feat. singer Nora Fischer, conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen. It was one of the memorable weeks of performance as I had the opportunity to sit and play next to saxophone superstar, Tim McAllister.

I played the Alto part and Tim had the Soprano part. The Dutch singer, Nora Fischer had such a fun voice and was exciting to listen to. It was also lovely to have met with the composer, Louis Andriessen too! The piece has a lot of intricate parts and conversation among instruments and it really draws the audience into the music.

This was definitely one of the exciting memories I had pre-pandemic! As many parts of the world is opening up and ending its restrictions these days, I hope live music will be back again as it used to!
