Guitarist Shingo Fujii

Last year in 2021 when Scott and I had an opportunity to do an online interview session with guitarist, Bill Kanengiser. He is one of the founding members of the Grammy-Award winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet (LAGQ) and holds a teaching position at USC, my alma mater :) In the interview, I was introduced to Bill’s good friend and a Japanese guitarist based in Kyoto, Shingo Fujii and later I had the chance to meet with him in person.

This time, on February 19th I was grateful that I got to catch his concert this past weekend in a beautiful century-old machiya, a traditional wooden townhouse, in Kyoto. A rare seven-string guitar and the regular six-string sounded spectacular and it was a nice coincidence that the day of the concert was his guitar maker, Takashi Miura's birthday Toru Takemitsu's short A Piece for Guitar for 60th Birthday for Sylvano Bussotti was performed as a celebration.
