Erlkönig
Franz Peter Schubert (1797-1828): Erlkönig , D.328 (1815) Erlkönig a.k.a. Elf-King is based on a 1782 poem by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Schubert was only 18 years old when he composed it. The poem tells the story of a boy riding home on horseback in his father’s arms who becomes increasingly terrified by what he hears from the Elf-King. The father spurs on his horse, but too late, Elf-King had already seized the boy and was found dead.
